War of the Worlds, Episode 12

Book 1, Chapter 12

What I Saw of the Destruction of Weybridge and Shepperton…

(link to Episode 1)

Whew…what a week it’s been! Almost didn’t think I’d get this one out in time. The Narrator feels the same way, he being one of the few who yet realize what’s heading for the Gentle Populace. Yet, don’t worry, the big guns are coming out in force this time. They’ll make everything better, right?

This is a longer chapter, and winds up being filled with a lot of action besides, resulting in a huge uptick in editing and sound design that I wasn’t expecting, not that it wasn’t a lot of fun. The hard part is keeping track of all the tidbits. A little like weaving with sounds. If someone could point me towards professional sound design, that would be great, especially if they pay at scale. I have a feeling it’s a touch niche, though.

In local news, Mars is in opposition, so break out the binoculars, find a telescope, and go take a look at our friendly local neighbor and you might just get to see its icecaps. This is the state our two planets would have been in at the start of Well’s story, and one can imagine the world then lacking in the light pollution of today’s backyard.
